Sobriety means facing life honestly and directly.

Honesty means seeking the truth of who you are and then being it.

It is my job to be the man I am, in this universe, on this day.

==Marty Wilde

Excerpt 23

To attempt to write or say the truth, when it only occurs as an instantaneous surge of inspiration is absurd, but then again so is being alive.

Truth is revealed at the right moment and cant really be captured and stored for later use. It is a “just in time” sort of thing.

Brene Brown – what can happen when people confront their shame head-on

Shame is an unspoken epidemic, the secret behind many forms of broken behavior. Brené Brown, whose earlier talk on vulnerability became a viral hit, explores what can happen when people confront their shame head-on. Her own humor, humanity and vulnerability shine through every word.

The Substance of the Way of the Samurai

The Way of the Samurai is found in death. When it comes to either/or, there is only the quick choice of death. It is not particularly difficult. Be determined and advance. To say that dying without reaching one’s aim is to die a dog’s death is the frivolous way of sophisticates. When pressed with the choice of life or death, it is not necessary to gain one’s aim.

We all want to live. And in large part we make our logic according to what we like. But not having attained our aim and continuing to live is cowardice. This is a thin dangerous line. To die without gaming one’s aim is a dog’s death and fanaticism. But there is no shame in this.

This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai. If by setting one’s heart right every morning and evening, one is able to live as though his body were already dead, he gains freedom in the Way. His whole life will be without blame, and he will succeed in his calling.

Excerpt 20

The optimist and the pessimist are frightened by plain reality.

It is nearly impossible to live life in its naked truth, without attempting to put either a positive or negative expectation on the future. I am convinced that working with life exactly as it is and exactly as it occurs is the ultimate faith.

“It’s only in uncertainty that we’re naked and alive” ==Peter Gabriel

Excerpt 19 – Face to face with your flaws

Sexual romance is a trick played by nature that’s gets ignorant aggressors close enough to procreate and close enough to face their respective character flaws.

I have seen so many couples that treat each other disgracefully. It is as if they have entered a social contract to maintain a relationship in which they can act out all their childhood neuroses on each other.

The enlightened alternative is to enter into a relationship knowing full well that you need to learn to face your personal flaws. The relationship will bring you face to face with each of your flaws and you will have an opportunity to face and outgrow your neurosis.

All anxiety comes from not facing your situation. ==Chogyam Trugpa

Excerpt 18

Once God or spirituality is understood, it becomes currency for the ego to crave, hoard and use for its own empowerment.

Righteousness is the end of open-mindedness and the abandonment of the process of expansion.

As a seeker, I am an expanding man.

Excerpt 17

Being true to ones-self and allowing time to occur is how one finds ones true place in the universe.

As a person develops spiritually, it becomes more natural to make decisions and take actions that are based on the right choice, not the easy one. One finds that there is still pain, but not regret, for these choices. In other words, if I could go back, I would do the same thing again.

This is literally “Doing the best you can”.
